폰디의 안드레아 주교 이야기 문헌분석
어느 시대나 성에 대한 문제는 존재했지만, 무엇보다 정결의 덕을 주요한 덕 목으로 삼고 있는 교회 안에서 벌어지는 성적 남용이나 추문은, 오늘날 교회 안 에서뿐만 아니라, 사회적으로도 큰 문제가 되고 있다. 이런 문제를 극복하기 위 해서는, 여러 법률을 제정하고 규범을 세우는 적극적인 움직임과 함께, 누구에 게나 다가올 수 있는 성적 유혹의 위기 상황에서, 과거의 사람들이 어떻게 그것 을 극복하고 정결의 덕을 수호해 나아갔는지 돌아보는 것도 필요하다. 역사상 많은 사람이 성적 유혹에 맞서 훌륭하게 정결을 지켜나갔다. 이러한 이야기 중에서 본고에서는 특별히 그레고리오의 대화집에 들어 있는, ‘폰디의 안드레아 주교’가 겪은 유혹 이야기에 집중하였다. 먼저 이야기의 배경과 구조, 특징을 파악하고, 더 깊은 이해를 위해서 다른 성적 유혹 이야기들과의 관계를 고려하였다. 이중 구조를 지닌 이 이야기는 대화집의 성적 유혹 이야기 중에서 가장 길 고 복잡한 구조를 가진다. 또한 대화집 이전 여러 작품에서 유래된 상징과 표 현들을 품고 있으면서도, 자신만의 독특한 여러 특징을 드러낸다. 여기에 그레 고리오가 전하고자 하는 목적과 의도를 고려하면, 이 이야기는 더욱 풍성해진 다. 부제 베드로의 말처럼 두려움과 희망을 전해주는 이 이야기는, 사랑으로 나 아가는 큰 여정 속에 있으며, 여러 주제를 통해서 도덕적, 신학적 담론으로 확 장될 가능성을 가진다. 유혹은 각자 다른 형태로 다가오기 때문에, 한 가지로 정의할 수는 없다. 하 지만 무엇보다 안드레아의 작은 교만이 유혹의 시작이 된 것처럼, 유혹은 언제 나 작은 것에서 시작될 수 있다는 것을 잊지 말아야 할 것이다. 그러나 만약 우리가 지닌 인간적 한계 때문에 유혹에 떨어진다면, 안드레아가 유대인의 발 앞에 엎드려 자신의 잘못을 뉘우치고, 니체아 공의회 법령에 따라 여인을 내보 내는 것을 시작으로, 유혹을 피하려 노력한 모든 것들을 돌아보아야 할 것이다. 유혹에 떨어졌을 때는 안드레아처럼 신속하게 회개하고, 그 유혹을 이기기 위한 구체적 행동이 이어져야 한다. 이런 신속한 회개와 그에 따른 구체적인 행동은, 같은 유혹에 떨어지지 않도록 도와주는 보호막이 되어 줄 뿐 아니라, 정결의 덕 을 지켜나가는데에도 든든한 버팀목이 되어 줄 것이다.
Textual Analysis on Story “Bishop Andrew of Fondi”
There has been sex-related problems on all ages, but sexual abuse and scandals within the Church, - that keeps ‘Chastity’ as its prime value- is such a big problem not only within the Church but out to the whole society. To overcome these problems, an active movement to make laws and rules are necessary, in addition, to look back and see how people of past has overcome their moments of sexual seduction and kept virtue of Chastity is also needed. There were countless people has overcome their sexual seduction and defended Chastity. Among many stories, this theses focused on the seduction story of ‘Bishop Andrew of Fondi’, included in “Dialogues” of Gregorius. At first, the background, structure, and characteristic of the story was explored. Followed by relationship with other stories of sexual seduction for deeper understanding. This story, which has dual structure, has the most complex structure among the sexual seduction stories in the “Dialogues”. Also, this story has many symbols and expressions originated from former stories before the “Dialogues”, while showing its various characteristics of its own. Considering Gregorius’s intentions and object to tell, the story becomes even richer. As the Deacon Petrus says, this story gives fear and hope, also the story is on the journey to love, and has possibility to extend to the moral and theological discourse. Seduction comes different types according to each person, so cannot be defined in a single sentence. But as a small arrogance of Andrew was a begging of seduction, we must not forget the fact that seduction can begin from the smallest thing. Due to our human failings that when we fail, we should look back to the Andrew, who repented his fault under the feet of Jews, letting the woman out according to the canon of the Council of Nicaea, and every effort made afterwards to avoid any kind of seduction. When we fail, we should repent as soon as possible, like Andrew, followed by an actual action to avoid any kind of seduction. Fast repent and action according to the repent, can be a good safeguard that avoids same seduction and can be a good prop keeping the virtue of Chastity.
